OA East is committed to widening access to heritage and archaeology. It seeks to offer volunteer opportunities as well as to respond to requests. We have opportunities for anyone considering a career in archaeology, for archaeology students and for people of most ages who simply have an interest in archaeology and the past. Applications from volunteers are welcome all year round. Over the past year, we have provided opportunities for volunteers from the UK, Europe and as far afield as Australia and the USA. Archaeology is a multi-disciplinary subject and there are a wide range of activities you can get involved in. Volunteers can dig on an excavation, help to process artefacts or work on public events with the Outreach & Learning Officer. Generally you need to be fit and able, but there are office tasks too. What we do request if you wish to volunteer on site is that you are able to dedicate at least 1 week at a time. Office work can be more flexible, although agreeing regular days and times is usually required. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the Outreach & Learning Officer or download the following PDF documents: Information for Volunteers and the Volunteer Application Form. The Volunteer Application Form can be printed, completed and returned to the Outreach & Learning Officer.
